Access to the stadium from The Cow
|
WTF is that all about?
The Cow (and a couple of other bars) is on the edge of Westfield, right next to the main road everyone takes to get to the ground from Stratford station.
So some twat thinks it's a good idea to completely block off access, meaning that everyone has to go right round the houses via Stratford International station, for no fathomable reason.
Anyone any idea why?

I got off at Debden, and overheard some front wheels talking how shit the journey home had been. Absolutely fantastic stuff. And I'd been on the piss all night, which made it so much better.
Although CL football is a fucking long way away, should we ever qualify, we won't have to make that poxy journey that they have had to, unless the final is at Wembley and we make it ;^)

If you need to get away just leave three minutes early and avoid all the stop start bollocks

There was stop start after our play off game at Wembley. Only difference was that it was the police doing it rather than stewards

Those incredible transport links turned out to be a load of bollocks.
What was it 8/10 different lines going through there. The one game I went straight back to the station it took an hour from leaving the ground to getting on the platform.
Chelsea away with 15k less fans filing into a station where only the district line goes was much easier.
Wembley and the OS are both ok if you creep off for a beer for an hour but a bastard if you need to get back in a hurry

Can't say I remember leaving Wembley after the Blackpool game, but if there was no stop/start then it can only be because half the stadium was empty.
I've been to Wembley for countless England matches and various other things, and there's ALWAYS stop/start things (well, the Police standing there stopping people). Exactly the same as old Wembley - it's ALWAYS there. The fact is that stations can't handle that many people without letting some trains go. The two times I've been in it at the OS it's gone very smoothly - and much, much quicker than Wembley (due to there being more platforms and less people).

OTB, all went seamlessly v Blackpool if I remember correctly. No stop and go signs, wild goose chases or walking around in circles for hours going dizzy.

Yes, they absolutely will. It takes much longer at Wembley than it has for me at the OS so far unless you leave early.

I suppose we can rule out home games on Boxing Day in future then. Can't possibly be safe with all those football supporters descending on the starting day of the Sales!,

You don't walk through one of the busiest shopping centres in the country on the way out of Wembley- just down a long road. Completely different.
It's much much worse leaving Wembley than the OS anyway. It's taken me an hour to get to the tube from leaving the stadium once or twice when I've been there.

Oh, what sad times are these when passing ruffians can say "Ni" at will to old ladies shopping in Westfield. There is a pestilence upon this land! nothing is sacred.

I don't suppose the sell out 90,000 at Wembley tonight for the Spurs game will suffer the same indignity.

In addition to singing or whatever- the vast number of fans leaving the stadium is intimidating, and it would seriously overcrowd the shopping centre if everyone walked through it. It's a safety thing as much as anything I expect. There would be an almighty crush when 50,000 descend on somewhere already very full. Westfield is busy enough as it is on saturday and sunday afternoons.

"A bunch of day trippers shopping in Westfield don't find gangs of yoots hanging around intimidating no? Considering that is why they are there, to hang around in groups and intimidate people why do they not have their access restricted?"
I've been to Westfield dozens of times and never noticed these gangs. Not saying they don't exist but they keep a low profile generally.
Same cannot be said about your average group of soccer spectators.

boly is spot-on here tbf.
It pisses me off as much as anyone when people stereotype all football fans as scum/thugs etc and we can say what we want about the behaviour of E15's finest but groups of pissed blokes singing songs about sticking blue flags up arses probably aren't high on the list of people the average family are gonna want to bump into when doing their Saturday shopping.
